| Martyr's Day In LA
: Malibu temple/Santa Monica Memmorial Park, 2002-09-14 |

| Friends,
Last weekend, on Saturday, September 14th, 12 families from Southern California gathered at the Malibu Hindu Temple. Members, representing several generations, came from east and west; some traveling more than 150 miles. We joined together for a puja commemorating the lives, remembering the suffering and giving blessings for the KP martyrs. Following the solemn ceremony, singing Om Jai Jagdish and the lighting of candles, as dusk turned to darkness, we gathered for a simple potluck dinner.
The next day several of us got up before dawn and drove to Santa Monica where we served hot food to more than 40 homeless people. We started with a simple remembrance of the martyrs, and asked that those who had gathered for the food join us in a moment of reflection and silence for those who have passed away. Then we served chili con carne, rice, bananas, salad and warm homemade bread; all of which were appreciated by these distressed people. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to serve those less fortunate than we, as we remembered those who have gone before us, creating the path which has made our travels easier and our lives richer.
