A massive number of Hindus from various organizations in Florida came together in a spirit of unparalleled unity to protest the recent indiscriminate killings of innocent Hindus in Kashmir. They held a peaceful march on Sunday at the ?Torch of Freedom, Bayside, Miami, to bring about public awareness of the ethnic cleansing in the northern Indian State of Kashmir.
The call for protest was given by a recently formed group called the United Hindu Front that included Hindu immigrants from all states of India as well as from Kenya, England and West Indies. Protestors, men, women and children, drawn from all walks and stages of life carried banners and placards denouncing Pakistan for sponsoring cross-border terrorism in Kashmir and elsewhere in India. They called upon the world community to end global terrorism and ensure elimination of terrorist camps in Pakistan.
A pregnant woman, a young boy on crutches, an 85-year-old and three-year olds took part in the sweltering heat. A special photographic memoriam was displayed showing the bodies of the deceased with 24 marigold flowers to depict the lives of the 24 Hindus who lost their lives in the recent massacre.
Citizens of Miami continuously honked their cars in support of the cause. The event was covered by several newspapers and television channels.
Despite the honking cars, the flashing cameras and the sweltering heat, the solemn yet strong theme of the march struck a note in the hearts of passersby, who stopped to learn about the event, even joined the march themselves!
One of the coordinators of the event made it clear that ?we have nothing against peace loving Muslims of Kashmir or Pakistan or against Pakistani Americans, with whom we share a significant part of our culture, but we abhor, condemn and decry any one who supports terror and torture of the innocent people anywhere in the world?.
It may be recalled that the recent murder of innocent Hindus was not an isolated incident. It formed a part of the systematic game-plan being carried out covertly by Pakistan for over a decade by training terrorists, supplying them arms and sending them across the border to Kashmir and other parts of India. As a result nearly 61,000 civilians have thus far been killed and more than 350, 000 Hindus forced to leave their homes and hearths in Kashmir at the point of gun. Most of them still live in penury and poverty in make-shift refugee camps. |
